ON THE SHELVES
Thalía: Just call me Mami
Mexican superstar Thalía loves her new role as mommy so much that she wrote a book about it.
In Radiante! (Chronicle), the Mexican superstar, 37, celebrates the pregnancy and birth of her 19-month daughter Sabrina with husband music mogul Tommy Mottola. Cowritten by her ob/gyn, the book also gives tips about all aspects of a mother's life, from entertaining to exercising and eating well and getting along with your spouse.
The 37-year-old former telenovela star (born Thalía Sodi Miranda) spoke to us while preparing to fly in for St. Jude's Children's Hospital's FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala Saturday night.
So is it fun having a toddler?
``It's the time of your life! They're in the best stage at this age. She's so funny, and her little personality is already out there.''
Is Sabrina talking?
``Yes, she's bilingual! I speak to her in Spanish, and of course the father speaks in English with her. She knows when she's with me it's just Spanish. When the father arrives, she switches immediately to English.''
What does she say?
``She can count to 50 in Spanish, and almost to 40 in English. She says some phrases and knows letters in both languages. She's even starting to spell.''
Do you think about having another one?
``Definitely. I'm just, like, trying tp pace myself a little bit. At this age they're unstoppable! I want to give her all my attention and help her right now. But she's craving another brother or sister. When she sees other kids she gets so excited.''
Would you want a boy or girl?
``To tell you the truth, another girl. They're so fun -- they're girly but tomboys at the same time. [Tommy] wants a girl too. We wouldn't ever try to determine it, though. I hear about these methods that give you a kid with blue eyes and brown hair. It's not a supermarket!''
